Members of Parliament – A Time For Change

So, it seems Gordon Brown is trying to get the concept of a second homes allowance removed, or at least changed. With all the scandal that has been in the press recently it led to me dredging up a few opinions I had voiced some time ago during a discussion about the politics of Britain today.digitalhousesofparliament

All things brings to the fore the burning question of part time government. Members of parliament who have other work commitments besides their parliamentary duties, who have their parliamentary life subsidised and yet are expected to give full commitment to their role without bias…quite simply human nature dictates that is just not going to happen. No matter our determination an individual is not going to consistently support policies that would seriously affect their life so question of bias is essentially without question, unless of course said MP is a bit of a martyr keen dunce but comments on that are best saved for another time I reckon!

What I cannot understand is why, with all the money that is seemingly available to subside all these extras, why can there not now be the change that has been needed for over a century – a completely commited, paid MP to the exlusion of all outside interests. What are you on about you might ask? I will try to explain…

I cannot see any justifiable reason why a Member of Parliament should be allowed to have any outside vested business interests. If an MP is remain fair and impartial, completely without bias and PURELY representative of the interests of those who voted them into, how can it be allowed that they pursue other forms of income. The life of an MP should be one of total servitude to the people and of course should be salaried accordingly – but at a cost. There should be a law against either working for or sitting on the committee of any other business besides that of government. An MP’s only business interest should be that of Government and no other. No half pint subsidised housing bullshit that they all sign on to family member properties so that they get their interest paid for them – the whole entire system is a self service buffet of money at the cost of the taxpayer, defined by themselves, used by themselves and governed by themselves.

Common sense people – it doesn;t take much to apply it – have a go!
